Maybe Baby - 13 weeks 5 days
Maybe baby ... or Maybe Alien?!?
How far along? 13 weeks 5 days
Total weight gain/loss: - 7, apparently all I needed to lose the baby weight was get pregnant again (and get the flu ... while pregnant)
Maternity clothes? A few shirts, and the bella band everyday.
Stretch marks? Not yet!
Sleep: I wake up having to pee - and will myself to ignore it and go back to sleep!
Best moment this week: Getting to peek at Maybe again!
Movement: No - there have been a few things that I could convince myself are movements, but I'm sure it's just gas :)
Food cravings: Still really struggling for anything at all to sound appetizing, another factor in the weight loss
Gender: Hoping for a girl, but telling myself it's a boy
Labor Signs: N/A
Belly Button in or out? Innie
What I miss: A nice glass of wine after a ridiculous day at school!
What I am looking forward to: Feeling Maybe move all the time!
Weekly Wisdom: I'm working on enjoying every moment of my time with Henry - as his and our lives will soon be changing!
Milestones: Ending the first trimester!
Realization of the week: Same as weekly wisdom ;)
So for my OB appointment today - another doctor had taken home the hand-held doppler, so instead they let me sneak into the ultrasound room to get a quick peek at the heartbeat! It was 158bpm - which wives tales say are girls - but Henry's was always 150-170's as well, so we know how that goes !
We're about 95% set on the names - our girl name remains from last time - Nora Lee (after my grandmothers, and mother). Boys names are trickier, esp. with two teachers, but right now we're settled on Owen Roger (Roger is my dad's name). We do know quite a few friends who have Owen's - but no close friends, and it just sounds good together - and with Henry.
I feel so lucky and so happy - and excited for this baby!!

Henry's first party, birthday, and Thanksgiving
We have had a busy week here in our home!
Last Saturday we hosted Henry's birthday party - with about 30 of his closest family and friends! (ok, so maybe our friends). In order to be able to invite our friends as well, we only invited Henry's immediate family (i.e. his aunts and uncles, but not great aunts/uncles) I think this turned out well, and as far as I know, no one's feelings where hurt.
We had pizza for dinner - but it was before Henry's dinner time, so I just let him continue playing. The little beggar went around to everyone's plate - getting fed, then he'd walk away, chew, swallow, and go to the next person's plate! It was adorable.
During presents - he was entertained for a while, but he got stuck on one present and wouldn't leave it alone. So, as per usual for a first birthday, I got to open the presents myself. He got some great toys and super cute outfits! Which reminds me that I must start those thank you cards soon...
For the cake - he was a little timid at first - making his daddy try the frosting before he did. But then he discovered it was yum - and dug in. He did not get super messy, but it was cute none the less.
Overall, it was an amazing evening - we're so thankful for everyone who came and shared celebrating Henry's life with us! I am sad that my brother and niece weren't there - as they've decided their life is better without our family - but that's another story for another post.
On Wednesday - his actual birthday - he woke up and did his first official puke of his life. :( I think he and I have been fighting the same stomach bug - no fevers, just not much of an appetite and some other tummy issues. I got it first - but chalked most of the symptoms up to pregnancy. Then Henry - and on Thanksgiving night, poor husband got it the worst of all!
Since Henry was still sick for Thanksgiving (technically, not his first - but since he was only 2 days old last time, I'm calling it first) he didn't eat lunch, or really even try his thanksgiving feast dinner. He only would eat cheese. Poor guy.
Now that it's Sunday, our household is back to healthy normals! We're working on getting the tree up - so far Henry doesn't seem to even care that it's there - but we haven't put any of the pretty ornaments on it yet :)

Henry - 51 (almost) Weeks old
Tomorrow Henry turns 51 weeks old - and then next Wednesday (the 24th) he turns 1 year old!
Hmm... I got up here, now how do I get down??
It is amazing to me to think that at this time last year he was still in my belly. The rapid growth and change that infants go through the first year is crazy!!
Bottles: He had a couple weeks where he was doing awesome, and now he's drinking about 4 oz per bottle time again - so about 12 ounces a day. He gets half milk and half formula in these now - we had bumped it up to more, and he suddenly got some runny poops, so we backed off again. We'll try to add more milk soon to see if it happens again, or if it was caused by something else.
Solids: Henry is starting to develop a sense of taste. He does not like peaches. He won't eat peach flavored oatmeal, or peaches by themselves. He will eat the peach pieces from a mixed cherry fruit cup. If he's eating something, and you put something he likes better on his tray - he'll take the old food out of his mouth to put the new good food in!
Waketime Length: Same, usually 2 1/2 hours - sometimes longer
Naps: Same here - 2 naps a day, the first nap is an hour - then about an hour and a half in the afternoon.
Nighttime sleep: Stupid Daylight Savings time threw us off for about 3 days - but then he was right back on track like a champion! Still sleeping from 7:45pm until 7am.
Milestones: Henry isn't saying too many words - but he does try to mimic your sounds. He also is getting smarter with understanding what we say. He understands and follows the directions of "go get a book", "let's go eat", "bath time", and "let's go bye bye" It's so cute! He also got his toy snake yesterday when I told him to!
Daycare: Even better here - I set him down and he walks right away to the toys!!
We're having Henry's birthday party this weekend. We figured it would be better to have it before Thanksgiving weekend, so more people are likely to be able to come. We've invited a few family members and some of Henry's bestest friends ... and some of our best friends! We were going to make big pots of chilli - because that sounded perfect for a fall party. But - once we started adding up the cost of the meat and beans and sides - we decided just to spend a little more and order pizza! It'll be easier!
And just to get you thinking ... we've officially decided on boy/girl names for Maybe!! But that's for another post, another day :)

Maybe Baby - 9 weeks 5 days ... or later??
My wonderful husband was nice enough to take today off and go with me to our first official OB appointment today. Again - they had told me when she canceled our first ultrasound that she would try to listen for the heartbeat at this visit - but then she wouldn't because she said she's never been able to hear it at 9 weeks before. So I was annoyed with our doctor.
But then she felt my tummy - and estimated that it was feeling about 12 weeks instead of 9 1/2. So she decided we should have an ultrasound to make sure there weren't 2 Maybes inside!
Then, God blessed us with the ultrasound tech Joy - who just so happened to be sitting around doing nothing! We were so lucky to just get to move right into the ultrasound room instead of having to reschedule and come back next week!!
Don't worry - there is officially only 1 baby in there - but as per my usual baby breeding - Maybe is already measuring exactly one week ahead. My OB had said she won't change the due date unless it's 7 days off ... and it was exactly 7 days. So I'm not sure what we'll do there - I bet we'll discuss it next time.
It was so amazing and beautiful to see Maybe in there - flopping around, moving his/her little stumpy arms. The heartbeat was 163 - Henry's was always on the higher end too.
This pregnancy is starting to feel real ... and I am just so overwhelmed, excited, anxious, and grateful!

Sleep: Not too bad, just peeing once a night
Best moment this week: Getting to take a morning nap today - thanks husband!

Food cravings: Nothing, I'm really struggling with finding something that sounds good.

What I am looking forward to: Hearing the heartbeat - that will set my soul at ease!

So, overall I'm doing good with this pregnancy... just feeling really rundown and sick. Thank goodness I only work in the afternoons, because mornings are awful for me!
I'm trying not to be a worry wort with every twinge and pain that I feel. They don't happen often enough to be a concern, probably just round ligament and stretching going on. My tummy already looks full though - but I know it's just leftover from the first pregnancy and bloating. But I definitely know now why women say they start showing immediately with the second baby!
We've still got 5-6 weeks until we're out of the first trimester and into the safety zone (or safer zone - because are we really ever safe?) - but I'm repeating this scripture over and over all day long:
Find rest, Oh my soul, in God alone. My hope comes from Him. Psalm 62:5

10 months and 3 weeks
I think for now, I'm going to alternate posts about Henry and Maybe Baby. I don't want to make a whole new blog - so they'll have to learn to share the spotlight already!
Today is for Henry! At the doctor for his flu shot - he weighed 22lbs - 12 oz. But that was with all his clothes on, and a wet diaper. So, it's not an official weight :) My little man didn't even shed a tear for his flu shot - he's so brave!
Bottles: Still rough times here. We're trying to give him 3 6oz bottles a day - but he's drinking maybe 10-12oz a day. I've started to mix 2 oz milk with 4 oz formula, to gear us up to the switchover (and to stop wasting expensive formula!)
Solids: Henry will eat almost anything we're eating - he loves food! Almost every night at dinner I have to stop him because I feel like he's eaten a ton, and he never ever gets too full to eat. He just keeps shoveling it in!
Waketime Length: Same, usually 2 1/2 hours - sometimes longer
Naps: Definitely down to 2 naps, unless we have a crazy day. To help out at daycare, his morning nap is shorter, I wake him up around 10:30.
Nighttime sleep: Same greatness here! Still averaging 7:45pm until 7am.
Milestones: Henry now has 2 bottom teeth - and he can walk!! He cruises all over - and can even turn around or walk in a circle and keep on going! He's starting to try to say some words, but besides dada and mom - they're nothing official. You can tell that he's trying to repeat the sounds you say though - it's so cute!
Daycare: Henry is doing awesome at daycare - his caregiver says he's adjusted really well. He only cries for a minute or two after I drop him off - and it's the best thing to see him reach for me when I pick him up!
We got fall pictures taken with his cousin Claire today - I'll post some of them as soon as we get the cd!

Maybe...
Maybe Baby!
I've been saving the post I wrote about Maybe Baby ... and I'm going to publish it now because Nick and I are terrible at keeping secrets!

So obviously, we are very very excited!
I understand why people wait until after the first trimester to tell people. I also understand the risk of 10-20% pregnancies ending in miscarriage. Too many of my dear friends have experienced this, but if that happens, I'm sure I'll need the support of my friends and blog-o-sphere.
My third blood test gave results of hcg levels over 1300, so finally no more needles for a while!
We'll have our first ultrasound next Friday, to make sure that Maybe Baby is in the right spot, and there should be a heartbeat by then!
The bottom line - is that God is good! We're accepting all prayers that Maybe Baby is happy and healthy in there - growing strong!
Henry tried hard to hold his Big Brother sign.

I should have known...
I should have known something was off when my chip dip tasted like mint on Tuesday night. Seriously, I had Nick taste it to see if it had gone bad - he told me I was crazy.
And my gums bled like crazy when I flossed that night.
I knew that my period was due this past weekend, and that we were having a big party. So, being the poas'er that I am, I decided to give it a try on Wednesday morning. And the internet cheapie was positive. And I was in shock.
We stopped preventing back in May ... and since nothing had happened all summer, I was really doubting that we'd be able to get pregnant on our own! I still can't believe it :)
So, I've had 2 blood tests done, because I was worried about my progesterone levels.
My hcg levels are rising quickly - but I don't know when I ovulated so I can't say exactly how far along I am or should be?
Thursday - hcg levels = 121
Saturday - hcg levels = 390
That gives a doubling time of only 1.2 days. (they want your levels to double every 48 hours)
My OB wants my prog. level to be 20, and it was 19.4, so I get to take supplements for that again (I did with Henry too).
She wanted me to get a third test, which I did this morning, so we'll see what the results of that are. It makes me nervous that she's nervous enough for a third test ... but I'm trying to just relax!!

10 Months Old
Henry's is 10 month's old today!
Since going back to work, I've been a bad blogger mommy ... things are just so crazy, and this is with me teaching part-time! I cannot imagine full time - but kudos to you mother's who make it work! I know it's necessary for providing for your families, and I just feel so blessed that we can make this work financially so I can have mornings with Henry.
This week at daycare - Henry started reaching for the ground, and crawling away from me. I think this is better than when he would cry when I left him there -- but it still makes me cry :(

9 Months Old
I cannot believe it has been 9 months since this little boy entered the world!!
Here are his nine month stats:
Height = 30.5 inches = 96th percentile
Weight = 20 lbs 14 oz = 56th percentile
Head = 18 inches = 62nd percentile

Bottles: The last two weeks or so, Henry hasn't been interested in his daytime bottles. He may eat 2-4oz from them, but that's about it. So at lunch time, I began just giving him formula in a sippy cup instead of bottle beforehand. This makes him more likely to eat his 3:30 bottle. But, it still just depends on the day.
I got the go ahead from our pediatrician today to start him on milk - which I'm very excited about! We'll start w/ sippy cup of it at lunch, and see where it takes us!
Solids: Mr. Independent has decided in the last couple of days that he no longer will eat baby food, especially if someone else near by has "big people" food. Soo ... I'm still trying to sneak it in b/c it's easier to give him fruit and veggies that way -- but he's getting way more of our food too. Our doctor has said Henry can have anything, even peanut butter, so that's helpful in trying to decide meal plans!
Waketime Length: Same, usually 2 1/2 hours - sometimes longer
Naps: Henry has pretty much dropped the 3rd evening nap -- unless his afternoon nap is too short.
Nighttime sleep: Great - averaging 7:45pm until 7am.
Milestones: Henry is starting to wave at people. He wouldn't do it for Grammy last night, or friends this morning - but he was more than happy to wave at all the strangers in the doctor's office waiting room! He can pull to standing, and walk around furniture. He's also able to walk while pushing a toy! He's going to be walking before Halloween I'm pretty sure! Still waiting on those teeth ...
Daycare: Within two days last week, Nick and I both got full time jobs! Which is an amazing blessing, but I am having a hard time wrapping my head around me being gone from Henry all day. To ease the transition, he's already gone to daycare for 2 full days last week, and will do 3 full days this week. Then we have 5 beautiful days together before we're back to work officially. We are blessed to have a wonderful daycare option - I love love love our lady and know that Henry is well taken care of and loved. But - I still cry every time I leave him there :( It will get better, and we all will be fine.
But who wouldn't have a hard time leaving this handsome man?!?

Let it be known...
That on this day, a Tuesday, Henry had potentially the worst day of his life.
He woke up with a plugged nose and a fever.
The runny nose continued, which made him angry every time his mom wiped it for him.
He bumped his head about 5 times, twice resulting in goose eggs.
And now he has what looks like a weird bug bite on his eye.
He's a trooper though -- a little clingy, and unwilling to give up his binkie (which I think he's calling "bob" but am not certain) -- he still had had plenty of smiles and kisses for us.

And then it's August...
Hey - remember us? Long time no write ... I know, I'm a slacker!
Let's see what's going on in Henry's world:
Bottles: We still give Henry 4 60z bottles a day ... he takes most of the morning and bedtime bottles, but often only takes half of the midday bottles. Some days are better than others. He also still doesn't like to take bottles from other people. Now that he's going to daycare once a week (update on that below) - hopefully he'll get over this weird little issue.
Solids: Little piggy likes to eat. I can't eat anything in front of him without him screaming for me to share. But - he also now tries to share his food with me - so that's cute! I'm hoping to soon be done with the jarred babyfood and be giving him all table food - he does a great job mashing and chewing with his gums, even though he still doesn't have teeth!
Waketime Length: Usually 2 1/2 hours - sometimes longer
Naps: Henry takes a morning and afternoon nap, each about an hour and a half long. He still takes a cat nap in the evening, but I have a feeling we're about done with this - since the last two were only 20 minutes long, and he skipped it all together the day before those.
Nighttime sleep: Still good here - sleeping from about 8:30 until 7:00 - he sometimes wakes between 6-7am, but talks in his crib until I get him up.
Milestones: Henry is a speedy crawler! He loves to play chase around our ottaman. He can pull himself up to standing - but doesn't really walk along the furniture yet. He says "mama", "dada" and "baba" fairly consistently and in appropriate situations, so I think those are for sure his first words. He often also sounds like he's trying to say "down" and "up" - but I can't be sure yet. And then there's lots of random sounds all day long ... one of his favorites right now is "bob".
We've done tons of fun summer things, like swim class @ the YMCA, zoo trips, hanging in our kiddie pool.
Daycare: Since our job outlooks for the fall are still up in the air - we've started to send Henry to daycare one morning a week until we know more about the situation. This hopefully will give both daycare and Henry a chance to become aquainted before getting thrown into it full swing in the fall!
So - that's about it on the Henry front.
As for our family life - we're in job limbo right now. I don't remember if I posted about it - but in the spring both Nick and I were laid off from our teaching jobs. Since then, I've been called back to a .4 position, which does not make me eligible for health insurance. I had requested to be part time in the spring as well.
Now as school is getting closer, and still no word from Nick's school district - we decided I needed to resubmit my request and change it to full time - because we really need health insurance and the money! I'm going to be so bummed if both Nick and I end up getting called back to full time - but hopefully it will only be for a year. I keep telling myself it's best for my family, even if it doesn't seem best for me right now!
Now for more important questions ... like the big 1 year birthday party coming up in 3 1/2 months!! The big debate is: Big Party w/ Family and Friends? Or just Family? Thoughts?!?

Hot Hot Heat!
Lots has happened for Henry in the last 2 weeks!
He can now crawl - and is getting into everything. Just today alone he discovered cords, and was searching for every plug in the house! Sooo that's fun for me :)
He's loving the swimming and water that he gets now that it's mega hot out.
He also loves having his daddy home for the summer! I'm sure he'll be equally as happy if Daddy doesn't get called back in the fall, then it'll be daddy daycare everyday.
Still no signs of teeth - I used to say he was holding them in because I always thought of teething as a good time to quit breastfeeding. Obviously I quit earlier, and he's still not pushing any through!
I suppose that's it on us for now - I'm too lazy to do a full update.
If you have time and extra prayers - please pray for my online friend who gave birth to her tiny baby this week at only 27 gestational weeks (click the "Bennett" button to the right to read her amazing story - but I warn you of beautiful yet heart wrenching pictures of the tiny baby)

30 Weeks and Overdue Updates
Hi Bloggy friends! Long time no update eh? Sorry!!
Nursing: Here's a big change - we're all done with nursing! Due to the list of cons getting longer and longer - I decided that I was ready to move on. I was going back and forth for a while, and battling the guilt of quitting breastfeeding - but finally just made the decision. I do not regret it at all! The process went much quicker than I thought it would - I tried to keep the night and morning feedings for a while. But, we discovered after I had a night out that Henry sleeps through the night after getting a bottle - but not after breastfeeding. Yeah - not going to keep that up! Then once I dropped the night feeding - he wasn't happy at the morning one. So our weaning process took a total of almost 2 weeks.
Bottles: So now Henry gets 4 bottles a day. He takes 6 oz in the morning and at bedtime great - the daytime bottles are a challenge. He'll eat anywhere from 3 - 5 oz. I worry when he doesn't take enough - but he has no problem letting me know he's done by pushing the bottle away and spitting it out.
Solids: Henry's eating more and more table food now. He loves getting tastes of what we're eating. His schedule for his jarred food is the same as before. He now gets puffs or yogurt melts after each meal. He chews like a champ - I tried to give him a teether cookie to suck on, and he just took a big bite of it, so we had to nix those already!
Waketime Length: Still 2 hours, sometimes 2 1/2 depending on what we're doing.
Naps: This is some of the best news. Henry has overcome the 45 minute intruder. Finally! He now takes a morning and afternoon naps, usually 1 1/2 hours long, and then a cat nap of about 45 minutes around 5pm.
Nighttime sleep: Also good news. Henry sleeps through the night again - and is now going down to sleep around 8pm. He was trying to wake up at 6am on our vacation - but since being home he's slept until 7 everyday.
Milestones: Big things here as well! Henry can now sit up by himself for extended periods of time, and has even pushed himself into a sitting position a few times. He pushes up onto all fours and rocks back and forth, then launches himself into a face plant forward. He's taken a few true crawling movements - but now that he has figured out army crawling - he just likes to do that. I'm wondering if teeth our in our future soon - he's going through random cranky fits and objecting to his solid meals. We shall see!
We also went on our annual vacation to Munising. Nick and I go every year after school gets out - and this year dragged along my parents for babysitting purposes! Henry was so awesome on the 6 hour car ride. He took his naps - was a little fussy inbetween - but nothing near what we thought it would be. He adjusted well to the vacation home were were staying in - but was Crank the last couple of days - I think he was ready to come home!
Well - this is probably the most positive post I've ever made ... that probably the next one will be full of confusion and frustrations again!

26 weeks ... 6 months old!
He's half way to 1 year old! Amazing!!
Here's his 6 month stats:
Weight: 17 lbs 13 oz ~ 58 percentile
Height: 27 3/4 in. ~89 percentile
Head: 17 3/4 in ~ 83 percentile
So he's definitely slowing down and becoming more average - but big and healthy like I like him! He had to get 4 shots yesterday - but handled it like a champ! A few tears and then he was good for the whole day. He got a little fussy in the evening, and a low fever overnight - but I'm thinking it's just residual from the trauma of the day.
Nursing: Going good - except this heat! Yuck! I was convinced that I was going to switch to formula during the day and just nurse morning/night ... but then we received some not so good financial news and I just feel guilty spending money on formula when I don't have to. The doctor said that we're about at the age to move to a 4 hour schedule - which means nursing only 4 times a day - that's exciting! I know the hardcore breastfeeding people would disagree - but it sounds good to me!
Solids: This week we added oatmeal, peaches, and carrots. I'm thinking of adding 1 tablespoon to each meal - as he's getting angry when it's all gone. Doc said we could start meats - but purred meats freak me out ... I tried giving him the tiniest bit of mine the other night and he just didn't know what to do with it! I also give him his sippy cup with a little juice and water in it now - he's really enjoying figuring out how it works - he just can't lift it up by himself yet.
Waketime Length: Usually 2 hours, sometimes 2 1/2 depending on what we're doing.
Naps: We've had several naps over an hour now! I'm not sure if this was making up for weekend time and busy days - we'll see if we're about to change! I think he's getting ready to only take 2 naps a day, and this is helping move towards that goal.
Nighttime sleep: Unfortunately, we're still waking in between 2-4 am and not going back to sleep until he's in our bed! Not sure yet what our next step is going to be ... do I cherish this cuddle time while I can? Or put a stop to the madness with several rough nights of CIO?
Milestones: Henry is now doing his own form of army crawling. He doesn't quite use his arms to pull himself - it's more using his knees to scoot up while on his elbows. If he would just pick his head up - he'd be on the go!

25 Weeks
My Henry is almost 6 months old!! Can you believe it?!
I'm excited to take his 6 month photos - I've been browsing photographers websites for pose ideas.
Nursing: Continuing with 5 times a day, all is well.
Solids: To combat some of his nighttime wakings, we bumped up his solid amounts. This boy loves to eat! I think I'm going to add another tablespoon to each meal, because he's starting to still be fussy once the food is gone! Here's our meal plan for this past week:
7:00 nurse, 2 T cereal, 2 T fruit
10:30 nurse, 2 T fruit, 2 T veggie
2:00 nurse
5:00 nurse, 2 T cereal, 2 T veggie
7:00 nurse
He now eats bananas, applesauce, pears, green beans, peas, sweet potatoes, and rice cereal.
Waketime Length: Still 2 hours.
Naps: Still 30-45 minutes. Sometimes will fall back asleep in swing for another hour - about once a day.
Nighttime Sleep: Henry has been waking up at 3am consistently for the last week. We've tried feeding and CIO and it doesn't work. Last night he fussed/cried for 2 hours (I fell back asleep after turning monitor down a little, not off though... opps!!) The only solution that works is bringing him to our bed, where he promptly falls asleep until 7am. Bad Habit? Yes. Worth it for me to get sleep? Yes.
Milestones: He now can roll both ways, and is making his way across our floor. He's really working on crawling, he just needs to figure out how to get his arms involved!

24 Weeks and Sleeping Frustrations
Time for a long overdue update, inspired by sleepless nights!
This past weekend was my first mother's day with a live child in my arms. While the entire day I was blessed to spend time with loved ones - I still felt a little off. One of my blogger friends described this feeling as "survivors guilt" and it's so true. For those of us who went through IF to conviece our children - I do not think we ever fully recover from that pain. Of course we are beyond happy with our blessings - but we know that there are women out there who are dying for the same gift. And days like Mother's Day break their hearts ... we remember that pain all too clearly. I still pray daily for the friends I left behind when Henry joined us!
Henry Update:
Nursing: Henry and I are continuing our nursing relationship. He can be distractable, especially when he's not quite hungry. If he gets too many solids, he also doesn't nurse as well. I am thinking of moving to a 4 hour schedule to see if that helps - but I want to make sure he's still getting enough milk in his diet.
Solids: Henry now eats rice cereal, bananas, green beans, and sweet potatos. This week we are going to introduce peas and pears. See sample schedule below.
Waketime Length: He is now able to be awake for about 2 hours at a time. Sometimes, especially his first wake of the morning, this is still only 1 hour 45 minutes.
Naps: Henry continues to only nap for 30-45 minutes. Once in a while he'll sleep for over an hour, but these are rare and far between. He takes 3 naps a day. Most of the time he goes right down for a nap, but every once in a while we have to do CIO and battle the roll over monster.
Sample Schedule: Right now his schedule looks something like this:
7am: wake/nurse/2 T of rice cereal
9am: nap
10am: nurse/2 T of green beans or sweet potatos or banana
11:45am: nap
1pm: nurse
4pm: nurse/ 2 T of rice cereal
7pm: nurse/bedtime
Nighttime Sleep: Here is where the drama unfolds. Henry was sleeping beautifully from 7 to 6:30/7 for about 3 weeks. Then last week he caught a little cold and woke up in the middle of the night because he couldn't breathe. He also began rolling to his tummy in his crib at this time. The first night I nursed him, then put him in his carseat - the uprightness of that position helped his breathing. Since then - he has been up everynight. And after an hour or two of me being awake, I give in and bring him into our bed, where he's out like a light. I know - bad mommy. Last night was the worst - as he was awake from 12:20 until well after 2:30am - just happy to be awake. I didn't bring him into bed out of my own stubbornness, and now I'm tired as a result!
According to Babywise Theory, there is something called 5-8 Month Sleep Disruptions, and here are their suggestions of possible causes:
Teething
Ready to Drop 3rd Nap
Growth Spurt
Change in Routine
Plus, he had a cold, so I originally thought that was the problem. He still has a bit of a runny nose and congestion.
I thought that teething may be part of the problem - but he's not really extra fussy during the day and his gums look normal. He's extra chewy on my fingers, but he is using his back gums for this - is that normal if his teeth are coming in the front?
I'm thinking about trying to turn the 3rd nap into a shorter cat nap - but that would require him to take longer naps during the day and we all have seen how well that works. There is the suggestion of leaving him in his crib for the full 90 minutes and let him CIO once he's awake and eventually he'll learn that it's nap time no matter when he wakes up. But sometimes he wakes up happy and ready to go after 45 minutes, and sometimes he does wake up crying and I can tell he needs more sleep. The crying times we try to finish the nap in the swing - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Some people have also expressed concern that he goes to bed too early - but I know he needs 14-16 hours of sleep a day - and when he only naps for not even 3 hours during the day, I know he needs atleast 11 hours of sleep by night. And he was doing that.
So - the trial and error process begins. Unfortunately to try to rearrange his sleep in his nap schedule, this would involve staying home for a couple days and really working on it. Which is no fun for mommy - but we'll have to give it a try.... starting tomorrow because today is mall walking day, and I need my food court stromboli!! :)

20 weeks
Oh yes, my little boy is now 20 weeks old. A week and a half away from being 5 months old. Wowza!No new milestones to report - unless finally fitting his toes into his mouth counts. He actually seems to have stopped rolling over. I think this is because he is now preoccupied with his feet again.
Oh, scratch that. He has slept through the night 3 out of the last 4 nights! I am glad that this new thing is coinciding with starting cereal again - because I worry that nursing 5 times a day isn't enough! He does seem to be moving towards a 4 hour schedule as well - which means only nursing 4 times a day!
On the sleep training front -- we are having difficulties with nap time. I decided to take Monday and Tuesday (today) as days to stay home and revisit the CIO for naptime. It has been a rough couple of days - he is screaming again when I put him down. I will update later this week how this all goes. It feels like we're starting over.
On the rice cereal front, we tried again yesterday and got this face for most of it:
And then tried again today, and by the end, I couldn't shovel it in his mouth fast enough - he was loving it!! I am so glad. Some people have mentioned it has a nasty taste -- but I tried it and it wasn't so bad!

Overdue Update...
So it's been a week or so since our last update!
Henry Details:
~ Henry is so close to sitting up all by himself already! We barely have to support him - he has strong core muscles!
~ Henry now rolls from his back to his tummy, and does this more and more everyday. In fact - today I've found it frustrating because I usually lay him on his little gym while I'm running around getting stuff done, but now he keeps rolling to his tummy and then crying because he's uncomfortable there! But as soon as I roll him on his back - it's back to the stomach!
~ We gave rice cereal a go about a week ago. He opened his mouth for the spoon, but then just pushed it all back out. We're gonna give it another week or so and try again.
~ I am so proud of how he's doing being around different groups of people. Easter was great - he only had a few fuss moments, but overall he was the life of the party!
Sleep Training
Well, it's been an interesting week in this aspect. We had such a beautiful schedule down, and of course, now it's gone. Last Wednesday he cried through his whole morning nap - out of no where! Same thing Thursday. Then we've been gone and busy all weekend so nothing was done there.
Just based on today - I'm thinking he's extended his waketime by about 15 minutes. I also think because we've been on the go - he's not used to being put down in his crib. He's become accustomed to the car seat and swinging motions. So it's back to CIO we go!
I think that's about it for now! Enjoy these pics!

4 Months - Dr Appt
Well - our boy is big and healthy! His four month stats are :
Weight = 16 lbs 5 oz - 78%
Height = 27 inches - above the 95%
Head = 16.75 inches - 58%
So he's slowing down on his weight -- but going crazy with his length!!
He did great again with his shots -- our nurses do so well at tag teaming to make it quick! He cried for a couple of minutes, then nursed himself back to happy :)
I'm still undecided on when I am going to start giving him some fruit/veggies - and exactly what method I want to use. I've been reading a lot about Baby-Led Weaning, which advocates not using baby food or even pureeing food. I know I really don't want to be buying cans of baby food though - so we'll see what I end up. We have decided to start him on some rice cereal - just a little bit once a day for a couple weeks, to get him used to the spoon and what not!
